The Most Important Safety Device For Your Bicycle During The Fall is… A Bicycle Light!

Many people don’t realize that from the hours of 6-9pm 1/3 of all bicycle fatalities occur.  This is the time a motor vehicle is most likely to not see you!  Many cyclists truly underestimate how difficult it is for a driver to see them.  Most bikers think it is simple inattention by the motor vehicles.  No question that is part of it, but trust me, a large part is you are simply not visible in the dusk or nighttime… UNLESS you have a powerful bicycle light .  Here is a video from the not for profit,Active Transportation Alliance , showing this point,  I urge you to watch it.

I use a light during day or night, and wouldn’t leave home without it.  I encourage a bright rear flashing red light as well.  The prices have come down and for about $100 you can get a very bright front and rear light that is re-chargeable   On the topic of lights, here is another cool product that is a connected vest/jackets with light that creates turn signals and reacts when you slow down or go through an intersection.   Here is a video on this new product to come out shortly.
