I love Thanksgiving, it is without question my favorite holiday and time of the year. However, it is very important to know that it is also the MOST dangerous time of the year to be on the road. There are more traffic fatalities this week than any other week of the year. I am writing this article not to scare people or even suggest you don’t drive, but to suggest you take some extra precautionary steps this week.

There are more intoxicated drivers on the road. This can be from holiday parties or college kids coming home and drinking to excess. So, consider not being on the road after 9:00 pm will reduce your chances of being in an accident. Many accidents are likely caused from people travelling to unknown areas and being distracted while attempting to locate a street. Accordingly, if you are in an unfamiliar area, make sure you are using turn by turn directions or stop and take the time to look at a map. As always, being on the constant look out for distracted drivers. Eat, drink (not if driving) and be merry…. but please be careful.
