Sometimes your worst Bicycle Ride is Really your Best…

Many times what you think will be your worst ride is in hindsight your best!!   There are plenty of times when I wake up early and am just itching to get on my bike.  The days when waiting for the clock to turn to 5:30am seems like too long of a wait.  This Sunday morning was not one of those days.  On Saturday I rode a very short but hard effort 25 mile ride and felt very good with my riding.  So much so, that on Saturday night I proceeded to have popcorn, 1/2 pint of Haagen-Dazs.  I also had a dozen wings and tossed it back with a couple of beers for good measure.   Now the problem was my scheduled 5:30am ride with a buddy of mine.

When I woke up at 5:00am my legs felt like they were super glued to the bed, it just stopped raining and was 48 degrees outside.  One of the benefits of having a riding partner is so you ride on days like these.   So I dragged myself out of bed and got on my bike.  The first 10 miles was into 18 mph headwind and that was refreshing..lol.   We stopped for some coffee and then literally got blown back home at an easy 22 mph.  When I finally got showered and cleaned up I felt more proud of myself for taking and finishing this ride than a normal one.  It seems it is these type of rides that do more for your fitness level than the ones that you look forward to…   Strange but true in my opinion.  Of course you must be careful over training, here is a good article on bicycle fatigue.

Ride.  Be Careful.  Have Fun.
