I recently saw an article about a man who invented a desk that allows you to pedal while you work and create electricity. I thought this was a very interesting idea and even represented  a future where we can access and utilize all the wasted energy that people generate while they ride bike. This energy can the be move to the electrical grid and be available to everyone.

Cycling to Create Electricity

Essentially anyone on a stationary bike can be hooked up to the electrical grid and get a second use besides exercise, creating power! This led me to an idea that I believe should become very popular and will create a lot of value for the public. I believe that prisoners should be given an option during the course of the day to exercise on stationary bicycles that are hooked up to  the power grid. This has two primary benefits. One, the prisoner will be able to  provide something that is actually positive during their incarceration. Second it will keep the prisoners physically fit and less likely to cause problems within the prison system. The reason for this is it is well-established that exercise increases one’s endorphins and reduces stress.

Perhaps many people will see this as forced labor. However, I can distinguish it in two different ways.  One, this will not be required as it will be voluntary. Second, the prisoner could be given a reduced sentence depending on the amount of energy provided along with good behavior. In addition, the prisoner we have developed a new activity that you can do outside of prison.  What are your thoughts?  As a bicycle injury lawyer, i see many people injured in accidents.  However, I also, more importantly, always see how the mental and physical benefits of riding ALWAYS outweigh the risks of injury.  Using a bike to create electricity is even another, out of the box, benefit of riding

Ride.  Be safe.  Have fun.
