Old or just “old school” biker?

Let me start off right away by stating that I am a tech geek. On my bike I use and love my Garmin 500 as well as my speed, cadence and heart monitors. However, there is something about electronic shifters  that just bothers me.  At some level I feel all the work being done to actually move the bike should be your own body. I know what you are thinking, electronic shifters don’t turn your road bike into an e-bike… but to me it sure feels that way.  The few people I know that have them rave about how quickly and effortlessly you can switch gears and how you never have to adjust them.

I am sure this all true until you run out of battery and are stuck on one gear. Of course my trusty 105 and Ultegra’s can break as well (though they never have). As I age I also appreciate how important it is to keep an open mind, so with an open mind I will continue to use my “mechanical” bicycle.  As an experienced bicycle injury lawyer I am always open to any technology that improves the safety of a bicycle.  However, I do not believe this product contributes or detracts from the safety of the bicycle.

Ride.  Be Safe.  Have Fun.
