My Wife’s First Road Bike… How Much to Spend?

My wife finally got a road bike!  Deciding on which bike to purchase was a difficult decision. Since my wife has never really been an avid cyclist. In fact she spent the last four years either being pregnant or breast-feeding our children. Accordingly, she is now ready to start exercising on a more regular basis and seeing how often I ride wants to get into cycling as well. This is very exciting for me and probably very expensive! I struggled with what level of bike to purchase,  I first I considered an entry-level road bike with an aluminum frame which will run about $1000.  However, my experience has been that if she indeed gets into cycling, she will most likely want to upgrade to full carbon bike.

Personally, as many know I ride a full carbon Bianchi Infinito as my regular right and then aluminum Bianchi Impuso  as my rain/hilly/ travel bike. I certainly feel that the quality of the Impulso with carbon  forks is great.  With that being said, there’s no question that when I ride my full carbon bike it is a much softer ride. Boy these seem like first world problems, don’t they?

Since I love bikes and my wife I decided to cross my fingers and starter her  off with a full carbon bike.  Now I simply pray that she gets hooked on biking like myself.  I’m thinking is if she doesn’t take up biking I will still be able to sell the bike on eBay for about 1000 bucks.  I will keep you all posted.   BTW she got a Specialized Ruby Sport for $2,000… of course we all know that is just the beginning of the expenses..lol.

Ride. Be Safe. Have Fun.
