Many people might believe that having more bikes on the road will increase number of bicycle accident injuries and fatalities. However, it seems just the opposite is true. We now know from recent studies on bicycle friendly cities around the world that the increase of bicycles on the road actually makes it safer for bikers. It seems this is due in part to the increased education of the drivers as well as increased alertness of the cyclists.

In addition, there are more dedicated bike lanes and protected bike lanes for bicycles. I have provided a link to an excellent New York Times article on this subject. As a lawyer that represents injured bicyclist I know first hand how important education is. Not just for the drivers but for the cyclists as well. Many our clients could have avoided the accident with better education. That is not to say the collision was primarily their fault, it is just a simple fact that when you are better able to anticipate what a car might do, you are better prepared to react accordingly.
Ride. Be Safe. Have Fun.
