I recently stumbled across an article regarding an experimental Pedal Powered Shared Car.  This is essentially a smart car that is mostly pedal powered.  We all know that nothing is more efficient or fun than a standard bicycle without any help from an electrical motor.  However, there are many times when a bicycle can be used to REPLACE an automobile, if it had more … fill in the blank.. weather protection, assist for hills/long commutes, storage for groceries, etc.

However, most of the time most of the people will not need a full pedal powered car.  That is what makes Velometro so disruptive.  When you have an occasional need for something more than a bicycle, but prefer not to burn fuel, you can take one of these smart car-bicycles for  about $15 an hour. This vehicle will go about 60 miles on one charge and will travel up to 20 mph.   You will be able to use a smart phone app to locate the nearest one.  Let’s hope this gets off the ground.  I feel many urban areas can really benefit from this type of transportation, and also eventually reduce the cost of use.    As we progress into the winter months remember there are much fewer day light hours, so please use your lights at all times when riding your bicycle.   Our office recently commenced representation of two cyclists that were in an accident due to a vehicle not seeing them.
