It may not be the first 3D bicycle, but the R160, crafted by UK-based Robot Bike Company, may be the best yet. Crafted using a titanium/carbon fiber material, the R160 is both ultra-lightweight and incredibly strong. Through their craftsmanship, the titanium adheres to carbon fiber tubes which are then heat-treated and fitted uniquely to the customer. Each 29 pound frame is built to order, and therefore is more comfortable for the bike rider.

True Customization of the 3D Bicycle

Though the bikes themselves may appear rather ordinary, each one is customized and built around the rider. The added comfort means better performance and a more comfortable ride. In fact, this is what sets the R160 apart from the rest. For the first time, you can get a truly custom fit. Of course, as my father-in-law would say, when it comes to any purchase, good, fast, and cheap never come together.

In the cast of the R160, production takes approximately four weeks. Each element of the bicycle is first created on the computer before being crafted using 3D printed titanium lugs. Lasers work to build out the bicycle using extremely thin layers of titanium. It’s this process that truly allows for the customization that sets these bikes apart. The process means that your bike is designed from one of over 225,000 custom builds- an obvious win over traditional bike sizing!

Take a deep breath before you take in the price tag though! Just the frame runs around $5,000 dollars. Obviously this level of customization comes with a cost. But for the serious or career bicyclist, this seems well worth the money. You could spend months trying bikes and never find one that even begins to give the level of customization that the R160 offers.
