I finally got back on the bike! As many of you know from reading my blog, I took an involuntary break from riding due to a prostate infection. This was not caused from riding but was aggravated from it. It took me approximately 6 weeks to get better and I will kindly not share all the details of this illness. However, this break from riding gave me plenty of time to increase my eating while I decreased my exercise. In addition, my friends, you may know them, Ben and Jerry, were not very kind to me. Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to get back riding again. However, before I started riding again, I was strongly advised to get a professional fit.
I must say, for some reason, I spend thousands and thousands of dollars purchasing bikes but always have been too cheap to spend a couple hundred dollars for a professional fit. In hindsight I now realize how foolish that was. So I went down to my LBS and hired who I consider to be a very competent fitter and I was amazed at the results. For those of you that have never been fitted, the first thing you need to know is that it will take approximately 2 to 3 hours and cost about $150-300 for the fit and additional money and time to purchase and install any components you need to complete the fitting. In my case, I was fitting two Bianchi bikes with very similar frames (Infinito and Impulso). I ended up spending $150 for the fitting and $400 for two new seat posts. In my case, I needed a seat post that put me further back than the rail on my seat was able to. The changes to the fit for me included raising my seat approximately 1½ inches and pushing me further back in my seat. This put me in a position that had me sitting on my sit bones and putting me in a more powerful position. Now, getting back to my first ride after six weeks. I naturally felt very out of shape but I can already tell you the difference from the fit is amazing. First, I did not get any numbness, which has been a problem for me, my knees had no discomfort and my shoulders felt much more relaxed. So I keep my fingers crossed that this fit did the trick.

I will keep all my readers posted. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and showed more restraint than me. I am now very motivated to lose some of that turkey weight and get in as much riding as possible As an experienced bicycle accident injury lawyer, I have to remind everyone to keep very visible this time of the year. There is less sun during the day and it always seems to be much greyer outside. So please use your lights and wear bright reflective gear!!
Ride. Be Safe. Have Fun.
