I believe most people severely underrate the importance of a cargo bicycle. Ross Evans, founder of XTRACYCLES, it’s clearly not one of those people. He put together a very informative video on the history of cargo bikes also known by many as longtail bikes. It is very well-done video and rather than not do it justice by my words I strongly urge all my readers to watch the video at their leisure. They are at a price point that is extremely reasonable given the amount of money it will save you. What is so amazing about cargo bikes is the amount of change they can create in peoples lives.

Most people in Third World countries do not have the access or the means to an automobile. When an impoverished person in a Third World country such as Nicaragua is provided with a bicycle, It truly changes their lives. First, It gives them the ability to get to school and get an education. Second, it allows them to get to and from a job. There is no way somebody living in a westernized country can understand how much simply having a bicycle can change a person’s life. There are several not-for-profit companies that work on getting bicycles to these countries. I will not be able to name them all in this blog but two that stand out to me are Bikes not Bombs and one called working bikes. I urge all my readers to check out these companies were ones that may be local to them and provide any assistance you can to them.
