Bicycle safety is now in your pocket!

The world of technology is changing and finally bicyclists are getting apps that provide much needed safety. It used to be the two most important safety gear for a bicycle was a helmet on your head and lights on the bicycle.  This has not changed but now there is another weapon all bicyclist have against the dangers of riding and that is the app on their phone.

One that I find most exciting is called bikeshield, and the bicycle accident lawyers at Kass & Moses, PC endorse this app.   The way this app works is all motor vehicles, motorcycles and and bicyclists put this free app on their phone and engage it whenever they ride.  Now whenever a motor vehicle will be approaching a motorcyclist or bicycle the app  alerts the driver to look out for such cyclist or motorcyclist.  This is a genius application of allowing vehicles to directly communicate with other vehicles.

However, for this app to protect cyclists it is imperative that all users of the road have this app and use it.  In the future it would be nice to see this technology  automatically put into motor vehicles at the factory level. However for now we do have the ability to use this with a free app. Here’s a link to this application and I encourage all people to use it.   This is just one example of how technology can help keep all of us safer. There are many other think tanks and companies out there today researching other ways to protect bikers. Another example would be an app that allows bicyclists to identify and notify local authorities of any potholes or dangerous road conditions it sees simply bye touching a button.  It is nice to know technology will help us all be safer on our bikes.
