In the latest in a flurry of motorcycle recalls, sources indicated that Yamaha is planning a motorcycle recall of 2015-2017 Yamaha FJ-09, 2014-2017 Yamaha FZ-09, and 2016-2017 Yamaha XSR900 motorbikes. The affected models are being recalled due to safety issues with the lower handlebar, says Asphalt and Rubber.

A report indicates there may not be enough thread-locking agent applied to the stud bolt threads due to improper painting. If the handlebar is struck, the paint may be damaged and can cause a loosening of the stud bolt due to vibrations in the handlebar. This handlebar could potentially loosen or come off while riding, posing a hazard to the motorcycle rider.

Handlebars will be repaired by installing a new lower handlebar with properly applied thread-locking agents. Yamaha, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is likely to announce a formal recall in the coming weeks. Upon announcement of the recall, owners will receive instructions about how to schedule a repair for their unit.
