Tattooed Motorcycle Wins Awards
What do you get when you combine two tattoo artists, a powerful bike, and some skin-colored leather? Meet The Recidivist- the world’s first tattooed motorcycle. It’s not unusual to find tattoo images on bikes, but generally they are painted on. In this case, however, tattoo artists Tomasz Lech and Krzysztof Krolak labored for 250 hours to actually tattoo images onto leather. The skin-colored leather covers the wheels, seat, tank, and rear fender of the bike.
The project, commissioned by Game Over Cycles, incorporates the story of the tattoo process into the bike itself. The construction of the bike conveys references to traditional tattoo techniques. For example, the front suspension of the tattooed motorcycle appears similar to a traditional coil tattoo machine, often used in self-made machines. The bike, although fully functional, has a number of tattoo-style elements in its construction.
Artists Krolak and Lech have stated that they prefer to work on human skin and that this may be the last time they tattoo on leather. The effect of their painstaking efforts is a bike that is truly breathtaking, and a piece of art to be cherished by bikers and tattoo-lovers alike.

The bike won in the Best Paint/Airbrush category at Germany’s Custombike Show, where it drew huge crowds. Enthusiasts appreciated the unique techniques involved in the tattoo-work along with the custom design of the bike, itself. The bike also won “People’s Choice” and the “Custom” categories at European Bike Week. The Recidivist continues to travel Europe and makes appearances at bike and tattoo shows.
Although this piece may be a one-off, it is sure to inspire other artists to incorporate their style into unique bike designs. Crafting creative custom bikes is truly art!
