Thrustcycle has released a prototype of a self-stabilizing motorcycle that may hit the market as early as 2017. This motorcycle eliminates the need for a kickstand and balances automatically at any speed, or even at a full stop.
Internally, flywheels act as a sort of gyroscope to keep the bike upright. This feature allows for greater handling on turns and stability throughout the ride. Younger riders will no longer have to learn to balance the heavy weight of a motorcycle. Inexperienced bikers can quickly feel comfortable maneuvering these motorcycles down winding roads.
Older riders or those who face loss of strength will be able to ride this motorcycle without undo strain on their bodies. Instead of feeling forced to adopt a trike in order to maintain balance and handling, the Thrustcycle offers a fantastic alternative for the aging biker.
The Thrustcycle, along with BMW’s Motorrad Vision Next 100, are eco-friendly, electric bikes. This may be disheartening for some bikers, who long for the noise and rumble associated with a gas engine. But the bikes carry a sleek, modern style and are safer than their counterparts.
The big question is price! The Thrustcycle is aiming to hit the market at under $20,000 – making it relatively affordable for such a futuristic look. The question is – will bikers race to adopt this new technology? Electric motorcycles face many critics who complain that the lack of engine roar and rumble through the body destroys the biking experience. But the Thrustcycle brings much more than just an electric engine, and the futuristic looks of the bike will certainly appeal to many.
