Sweltering, humid days can make the best ride uncomfortable. Wearing the gear necessary to stay safe can mean that heat becomes unbearable. As motorcycle accident lawyers, however, we have seen what happens when people ride without the necessary gear. That is why, when we ride, we follow the tips below to stay cool.
To Stay Cool During Your Summer Ride:
- Use clothing and gear with proper ventilation. Many helmets, jackets, and pants today are designed to increase airflow. This will not only keep you cool, but also will dry perspiration.
- Ride with a couple ice packs. Pop one against the small of your back and a couple in your pockets or wrap a t-shirt around a large one and place it under your clothing, against your skin. This will keep you cool even on the hottest days.
- Stop to take in some shade! Pull over to a shady area, take off your helmet and jacket, and cool off with a cold soft drink or some water. Put the cool drink against your forehead and face to cool off before you drink it down.
- Keep hydrated before, during, and after your ride. On hot days, you’ll perspire far more than usual. If you’re cruising at a good rate of speed, you may hardly notice. But if you’re stopping in traffic or at red lights regularly, you’ll feel it running down your body. Whether you notice or not, you’re lose plenty of fluids. Drink water before, during, and after your ride to stay properly hydrated.
- Wet down your clothing before you ride. A wet bandana against your neck will go a long way toward keeping you cool. Better yet, spray down your undershirt and stick it on the freezer for a few minutes (any longer than that and it may get stiff). It will start off icy cold, but will then dampen against your skin and keep you cool.
No matter what technique you choose, remain cool and enjoy your ride! Ride safely and if ever you are involved in a motorcycle accident, contact Kass & Moses today!
