On Saturday, April 6, 2013, one of the motorcycle accident lawyers from Kass & Moses spoke to the STAR motorcycle riding Chapter in Elgin, Illinois, on the topic of motorcycle insurance.
The title of the presentation was “What You Are Not Being Told About Motorcycle Insurance.” In short, most motorcycle riders either don’t have the two most important types of insurance – uninsured motorist (UM) and/or underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage, or, they don’t have enough UM or UIM.
Every day our office receives telephone calls from motorcycle accident victims who don’t know what type of insurance they have until it’s too late. The time to find out what insurance you have is now – before the riding season begins.

“The members of STAR #488 were receptive to our message. I know some of them went home and checked their insurance or called their insurance agent to make sure they have at least $100,000 in UM and UIM,” said motorcycle accident attorney Barry Zlotowicz. He continued “You can’t control who hits you and you can’t control how much insurance that person will have. But what you can control is how much insurance you have.”
STAR #488 is particularly attuned to rider safety. The last portion of the meeting was led by Road Captain Jeffry P. who quizzed members concerning motorcycle safety, including a quiz on T-C.L.O.C.K. – an acronym to remind riders to check their: tires, chain, lights, oil, clutch and kickstand. Then Jeffry and crew inspected several members’ bikes before taking their inaugural ride of the season. Also, the Chapter #488 website contains many riding tips loaded onto the site by Chapter President Rich F. Chapter #488 clearly takes rider safety seriously.
