As a bicycle accident lawyer I see the very injuries bikers sustain as a result of a negligent driver on a daily basis. However, nothing is more heartbreaking than when parents lose a young child from a bicycle accident. I recently read an article about Anthony Navarro, who lost a six-year-old child on Thanksgiving day 2011. There’s nothing that anybody can say to him, or do for him, that can ever replace this loss. One of the ways Anthony manages his feelings of loss is by volunteering his time to make ghost bicycles. A ghost bicycle is a bicycle that is stripped-down and painted white as a remembrance of a cyclist that was killed on the road. It is put at the scene of the accident as a reminder to all motor vehicles, bicyclist and pedestrians to be careful.
Anthony Navarro has already helped out with 60 ghost bicycles. In fact the number of ghost bikes being built is increasing every year. This should be a wake up call to everyone. This is terrible news for all bikers and for society as well. Hopefully there’ll be a time when there’s no need these bikes.

As we approach spring I feel it is important for everybody to remember that as much fun as biking is there still inherent risks. Accordingly we must always be on the lookout and aware of our surroundings. It is equally important for motor vehicles to be extra careful when passing a bicycle. The ghost bicycle is it from a reminder to all motor vehicles of the dangers their vehicles present. Here is a link to the article about Anthony tomorrow and the ghost bicycles.
A few months ago in one of my blogs mentioned very informative and safety tips, here’s a link to that article I urge all readers to give it quick read once again.
