It’s been well over 100 years since William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson began producing their legendary motorcycles. Surely in those initial years they never imagined marketing motorcycles to toddlers. But times, they are a changing! Harley-Davidson is purchasing Sta-Cyc, a company that manufactures electric bicycles for kids as young as three years old. And although this acquisition may seem unusual, it could be a shot-in-the-arm for the motorcycle giant.

It takes resilience and innovation to stay around for over a century, and Harley-Davidson repeatedly shows that they are in it to win it. Never one to shy away from a challenge, with this acquisition Harley-Davidson will enter into a market they’ve never tackled before, targeting young children. But that’s not all: these are electric bicycles. Should it come as any surprise that this acquisition coincides with their release of an electric scooter concept? If they are hinting at things to come, I wouldn’t be surprised to see HD marketing a rugged electric bike – maybe even bridging the gap between electric bicycle and electric motorcycle.
As in any industry, manufacturers must stay abreast of new technology, and it seems that HD is doing just that.
